Transgendered people seek social equality and, in my opinion, deserve to be treated with respect. The question of athletic competition remains unanswered at the moment. Society has to balance two values that collide here: respect and equality versus fair competition. Athletes agree that transgender women (whose DND is xy) have an unfair advantage over cis gender females. Despite hormone therapy, despite drastic surgical reconfiguration, male bodies are 30% larger and more muscular than female bodies. The current obsession with gender equality clashes with biological predispositions that cannot be artificially transformed. I think officials such as the Olympic governing bodies, are literally afraid of backlash and scandals. They cannot rule against transgender sports competitors, because social justice warriors will excoriate them. It has become a political hot potato, they are damned if the rule in favour or against transgendered competitors. There is no “one-two-three” simple solution to this vexing problem. As far as I know, ruling sports bodies decide on the merit of each case separately.
